Freediving Club Greece is proud to announce the 2nd Mediterranean Freediving Meeting - Sougia Crete 2009 and Depth Competition which will be held for the second year in the island of Crete between the 22nd of June and the 5 of July 2009. The Mediterranean Meeting is organized as an event for freedivers from around the world to meet, train, socialize and enjoy the wonderful hospitality of the island of Crete. The 2nd Mediterranean Freediving Meeting is going to be based in the hospitable seaside village of Sougia in the south of Chania and is going to include two weeks of organized depth training the second of which will include a five day International Open Depth (CWT / CNF / FIM) Competition with World Record Status.

 
Conditions: At the time of the Meeting we expect water temperatures in the mid 20s C and water visibility of the order of 25-45m. In order to attend the Mediterranean Meeting freedivers must present the organizers with a valid medical certificate issued no earlier than 1 year prior to the start of the event.

There is maximum of 45 freedivers we can accommodate for the training days during each competition day of the Depth Competition. These positions will be filled on a first-come first-served basis so do not delay in registering. Your registration will be confirmed once the downpayment for your accommodation reservation has been received. The deadline for registration is the 31st of March 2009.

Sled DivingSled diving (standard head up bent – knee design) will be available again this year during training for anyone wishing to try the No-Limits or Variable Ballast disciplines. Anyone wishing to enjoy the fun sensations of a sled dive or even train for and attempt a National Record is requested to contact the organizers in advance to arrange a suitable schedule.
A small fee is charged per day of using the sled.
 
 
Sled diving will be available to freedivers with proven sled experience. Divers with no previous sled diving experience are offered a special 3 day sled course which will be run between June 20th and 22nd in order to familiarize them with the equipment and several theoretical and practical aspects of sled diving. A general depth limit of 100m will be set this year for recreational and record attempt sled dives. Divers wishing to do sled dives deeper than 100m are requested to contact the Meeting organizer  well in advance in order to discuss their needs and arrange a special training schedule.
 
 
 
CWTThe following fees and charges apply to  all athletes wishing to attend the 2nd Mediterranean Freediving Meeting & Depth Competition. There are 3 fee options - please read carefully what is covered/included in each case.

1. First Week (Mon 22nd to Sun 28th) Training Fees  €250,00
This fee covers the cost of 7 days of training (training hours between 10:00 -15:00), boat transfers to and from the dive site, qualified safety freedivers for all target dives, Medical Doctor present on the dive boat, surface O2 for cases of emergency, coaching & countdowns on target dives if requested, Mediterranean Meeting T-Shirt and ID, drinking water available for athletes on the dive boat. Fees include the Opening Day BBQ (food & drinks).

2. Second Week (Mon 29th to Sun 5th) Training & Competition Fees €360,00
This fee covers the cost of the 5-day competition (competition hours between 9:00 -13:30) during the second week and 6 days of training (training hours between 14:00 -17:00). This is an International Competition with Ranking and World Record Status.
Fees include, Judges, Medical Doctor on Dive Site during Competition & Training, surface O2 for cases of emergency, boat transfers to and from the dive site, qualified safety freedivers for all competition and training dives, Mediterranean Meeting T-Shirt and ID, drinking water available for athletes on the dive boat.  Oxygen will be available for decompression after the competition dives: O2 supply will be available at 6 meters for athletes with valid scuba certification or at the surface for athletes without scuba certification. Fees Include the Closing Ceremony & Party (more food & drinks).

3. Second Week (Mon 29th to Sun 5th) Training only Fees €250,00
This fee covers the cost of 6 days of training (training hours between 14:00 -17:00), boat transfers to and from the dive site, qualified safety freedivers for all target dives, Medical Doctor present on the dive boat,  surface O2 for cases of emergency, coaching & countdowns on target dives if requested, Mediterranean Meeting T-Shirt and ID, drinking water available for athletes on the dive boat. Fees Include the Closing Ceremony & Party (more food & drinks).
 
Examples of total costs:
A. You join the event for two weeks, training during the first and competing in the second. Total cost €610  
B. You join the event to train for one week and do 3 sled dives no deeper than 100m. Total cost €310
 
Stavros Kastrinakis Stavros is an experienced AIDA athlete, an AIDA Master Instructor and International Judge with more than 4 years competition experience. He has been a member of the AIDA Hellas Board for the last 4 years and is a member of the AIDA International Education Committee. He was responsible for organizing the 1st Mediterranean Meeting in 2008 as well as several depth competitions for AIDA Hellas. Stavros has been a member of the Greek National Freediving Team in 2005 and 2007 and he has set 7 National Records in most depth disciplines.
